Project Manager – UPPER, Sudan

 

 

 Role Purpose

British Council will implement the University Partnership in Peace Education and Research (UPPER) Project – an ambitious and innovative peace education programme in Sudan and Ethiopia. We are seeking a Project Manager to lead the project delivery in Sudan and deliver against the programme’s stated objectives.

 

 

 

Main opportunities and challenges for this role:

The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery and management of the British Council’s Sudan activities as part of the regional programme of the University Partnership in Peace Education and Research (UPPER) project. You will also be responsible for managing the financial, granting, contracting and operational functions of the programme team, ensuring compliance with the British Council’s policies and project management framework as well as the PACA contractual requirements. The ideal candidate should be skilled in building partnerships and have the ability to drive dialogues that will build the capacity of Higher Education institutions and civil society organisations in contributing towards meaningful participation of young people in peace building.

 

 

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

  • The post-holder will deliver and monitor projects to highest British Council and client standards. You will manage Sudan’s project finance as per British Council policy and client requirements
  • Contribute to building of long-term partnerships for the British Council and manage a range of relationships with external stakeholders (e.g. government, sponsors, customers, partner agencies) to achieve positive outcomes for the British Council and facilitate effective operational delivery
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with coalition partners and other key players
  • Line manage project staff and lead on their professional development and effectively manage resources for programme delivery
  • To identify, assess, report and monitor progress in addressing risks to the achievement of project objectives
  • Deliver the monitoring and evaluation plan for Sudan, using the programme’s monitoring and evaluation framework developed by M&E lead
  • Liaise with regional communication team, responsible for the effective communication and dissemination of the programme
  • Support the Deputy Director to ensure that programme delivery and activity reflect British Council EDI policy

As with any business that experiences peaks and troughs of activity, there is likely to be a need to work outside office hours from time to time.

 

 

Role specific knowledge and experience:

  • Four years’ experience including two years in a managerial role
  • Experience of managing client / partner funded projects
  • Experience of managing the delivery of projects including those delivered through partners and / or using outsourced providers.
  • Experience in M&E of projects.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with tight deadlines

Essential Requirements–

The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:

  • University Degree in project management, business or social studies including in development or Social Studies.
  • High level of Arabic and English language (IELTS 6 or above equivalent).

 

 

 

Desirable requirements

  • Project Management for Development (PMD)
  • Financial Management for Development (FMD) equivalent
  • Management of Risk (MoR)
