DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position is located in the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission

in Sudan (UNITAMS). The position is based in Khartoum and is located in the Office of

Information Analysis Team (IAT). The incumbent will report to the Chief Information

Analyst Unit.


Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Information Analyst shall be responsible for the

following duties:

• Monitor and analyse events/data that may affect the implementation of the

Mission’s mandate, including by reviewing daily situation reports, local news

updates, social media, and other local sources.

• Develop and maintain strong network of focal persons across Sudan, particularly in

Darfur and the Two Areas, to support situational awareness and analysis.


• Gather, select, and analyse information received from different sources; together

with other members of the team, contribute to the development of analysis and

production of IAT outputs including reports, profiles, graphics and presentations.

• Contribute to maintaining databases and archives to effectively organize

information received.

• Support the Information Analysis Team in engagement with local interlocutors

where required, including providing informal interpretation on an ad hoc basis.

• Contribute to effective working relationships within the IAT and with counterparts

in other UN Mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and

organisations.

• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in

political science, social sciences, international relations, law, public administration,

economics, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with

qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in international

affairs, security, diplomacy, administration or foreign relations.

Experience in research and analysis of conflict and post-conflict situation is required.

At least one year of experience in a UN peacekeeping or similar field operation is

desirable.


Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations

Secretariat. For the position advertised, Fluency in both spoken and written English

and Arabic is mandatory.

Assessment:
